Evergreen Museum and Library Tour

Evergreen Museum & Library is housed in a Gilded Age mansion surrounded by 26 acres of gardens and woods. The museum is home to a renowned collection of fine and decorative arts, rare books, and manuscripts assembled by two generations of Baltimore’s civic-minded Garrett family (1878-1952). Though originally constructed in 1858, Evergreen was drastically expanded and altered by the Garretts to accommodate their eclectic collections, and today is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Visitors can experience the museum through guided tours that explore the Garretts, their extraordinary collections, and Evergreen’s transformation from a country villa to a hub for contemporary musicians, writers, and artists.

Please note that due to the historical nature of the building, Evergreen is not wheelchair accessible and all tours require going up several flights of stairs.

Homewood Museum Tour

A National Historic Landmark, Homewood is one of the best-surviving examples of Federal-period Palladian architecture in the nation. Built circa 1801 for members of Maryland’s prominent Carroll family, the house also was home to at least 25 enslaved individuals, including William and Rebecca Ross and their two children and Izadod and Cis Conner and six of their 13 children. Homewood is best experienced via our award-winning guided tour, which winds through the house’s 11 elaborately furnished rooms and tells the intertwined narratives of the Carroll, Conner, and Ross families.

Please note: The tour discusses mature themes such as slavery, violence, domestic abuse, and sexual assault, and may not be appropriate for younger visitors.

Jonathan A. Jarzyna Memorial Poker Tournament

Hosted by JHU PAWS, all proceeds go to the Maryland SPCA. In 2011 Hopkins alumni Jon Jarzyna, KSAS ’97, passed away from an undiagnosed heart condition just shy of his 38th birthday. After his wife and friends, two of Jon’s biggest loves were animals and playing poker. As a way to honor him and keep his memory alive, seven years ago his friend and classmate Matt Zaft, KSAS '97, decided to sponsor a Jonathan A. Jarzyna Memorial No Limit Texas Hold’em Tournament at Johns Hopkins University. It is a $100 buy in for alumni ($25 for undergrads), and 100% of the entry fees go to the local MSPCA as a donation in Jon’s memory.

Pericles, Prince of Tyre - Friday Showing

A rip-roaring adventure tale on the high seas of the ancient world. This romance tells the story of Pericles, as he weathers the darkness of incest, the curse of famine, and the pain of shipwreck. He finds the joy of marriage, but then loses wife and child to the sea – until the Goddess Diana intervenes to arrange one of Shakespeare’s greatest reunions. One of the lesser-performed plays, because unsettled by textual problems. Come see JHU Theatre’s newly edited version, and enjoy 90 minutes of music, poetry, and seafaring.

2026 Senior Celebration

Hopkins Symphony Orchestra

HSO will take on two great musical portraits. Copland’s Lincoln Portrait sets some of Abrham Lincoln’s most stirring words to music in this powerful piece, commissioned during World War II to express the “magnificent spirit of our country.” We pair this work with a newly commissioned piece by American Veteran and composer, J. Kimo Williams. This new work, Douglass Portrait, is based upon the text of another great American hero—Maryland’s own Frederick Douglass. Both works will be narrated by JHU alum and Shakespearean actor Gerrad Alex Taylor. We open the program with the winners of HSO’s biannual concerto competition. As we conclude our season, we celebrate Johns Hopkins, Maryland, and America in this program that speaks so compellingly to freedom and courage in the face of adversity.
